“Go down to the potter’s shop, and I will speak to you there.” So I did as he told me and found the potter working at his wheel.
Jeremiah 18:2-3
Here, we see something very interesting in this interaction between God and Jeremiah.
It’s a simple command; “go down to the potter’s shop, and I will speak to you there.”
We see that the Spirit can move in pretty mysterious ways, using common experiences to communicate deep truths. Jeremiah learned a lot about the heart of God by watching a potter mold clay into a jar. He saw that God wants to build us, His people, into something useful. He places care in His creation.
He is trying to mold and shape us, make us whole. Yet, unlike the clay in the hands of the potter that Jeremiah went to see, we tend to rebel and fight the purpose of God even though He knows best and wants what’s best for us. The nation of Israel rejected His working in their lives, and God had to take drastic measures to mold and shape them into what He envisioned for them.
Jeremiah learned all of these things by keeping an ear out and looking for God in the little things. He desires to reveal Himself to us. So many times, we want loud miracles when God loves to speak through little things, through whispers.
