As You Are

So, I intended to get this posted yesterday as a Music Day Sunday post, but I ended up being so busy that I never got the time to. Better is late than never right?

As You Are

All my life, I’ve heard it told
to come just as you are.
But all my life, I wouldn’t sacrifice
my pride before Your throne.
I tried to come as a perfect lamb
when the Perfect Lamb had already come.

I tried to cover my face
to hide its inherent disgrace.

When You’re asking me to come,
asking me to run,
asking me for all I am
whether all I am
is a perfect lamb
or a selfish man.

When all I hold is rot and rust,
when I don’t let go it shows a lack of trust
And I come in now fully clothed
to hide a nakedness
that’s fully known.

I try to cover my chest
to hide its emptiness.

When You’re asking me to come,
asking me to run,
asking me for all I am
whether all I am
is a perfect lamb
or a selfish man.

So, whether I’m contrite
or should I be full of spite,
when I see Your face,
I’ll never be the same.
