the truly selfish person not only exalts his successes but also exaggerates his failures. the selfless person takes each in stride and says, “with this, i continue forward.”
the danger is that, in one instance, you say “i can’t take this any more” and stop trying. the flip side is that you may say, “dang it, i’ve arrived! there’s no need to keep going!” in both situations, you are giving up.
